Polly
Shy little Polly is a sunda pangolin and is 6 years old. She is named after the daughter of the first person who adopted her.
She was rescued, along with 39 other pangolins, in Hưng Yên province, Vietnam on April 17 2017 by another rescue center. Looking after pangolins isn’t easy and they wanted the best life for her, so they agreed to move her to the Save Vietnam’s Wildlife rescue center.
When Polly arrived in August 2017 she was a very shy little pangolin. During her first veterinary check, we discovered that she was missing a leg (you can see it’s missing in the photo)! It was hard to examine her, as she was so scared of us that the she kept herself tightly rolled up into a ball.
Now her scars have healed, but Polly can never be returned to the wild. She now lives in a naturalistic enclosure, with lots of branches (she can still carefully climb, despite only having 3 legs), a deep layer of soil to dig in and lots of hollow tree logs to snuggle up in.
Your symbolic animal adoption will help to provide the essential care for the pangolins at the SVW Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre. It takes time to rehabilitate rescued pangolins to be ready for release back into the wild and many of the pangolins can never be released due to the injuries they have suffered as the victims of the illegal wildlife trade.
