Sơn
Sơn (meaning “mountain”, pronounced “sun”) our feisty survivor is a sunda pangolin and is 5 years old.
She was rescued in Quảng Xương-Thanh Hoá in Laos on October 6 2018.
Sơn was pregnant when she was caught by poachers but she’s a survivor and she fought hard to keep her baby alive through the very tough ordeal of being transported in the illegal wildlife trade.
Shortly after arriving at the Save Vietnam’s Wildlife rescue center, Sơn gave birth a beautiful baby named Giap. She taught her baby everything about how to be a wild pangolin and when Giap was ready she released into the wild.
Sadly, Sơn could not be released with her daughter because when she was caught in the poacher’s trap she lost a hind leg which affects to her ability to climb trees.
She now lives in a naturalistic enclosure, with lots of branches (she can still carefully climb, despite only having 3 legs), a deep layer of soil to dig in and lots of hollow tree logs to snuggle up in.
Your symbolic animal adoption will help to provide the essential care for the pangolins at the SVW Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre. It takes time to rehabilitate rescued pangolins to be ready for release back into the wild and many of the pangolins can never be released due to the injuries they have suffered as the victims of the illegal wildlife trade.
